Letter to the Cast
Dear Participants,
Thank you for your desire and willingness to participate in The Live Nativity production. We hope this experience will strengthen your faith and center your Christmas season on the promised birth of the Savior Jesus Christ.
Your participation will help bring the bible’s miraculous account of Jesus Christ’s birth, and the special events surrounding His birth, to the members of our communities. Additionally, participation in this live production can be a great personal blessing.
This production, and its presentation, are focused on the Savior Jesus Christ. Participating in The Live Nativity is a unique privilege. Your participation helps direct attention to the sacred beginnings of His mortal life. These events have meaningful spiritual significance for all people. Everything you do as a participant should assist in directing recognition to Jesus Christ as the central figure. For this reason, no one in the production is credited for their individual role. Participation is not for personal recognition or attention. We encourage participants to receive and participate in their role with quiet dignity and reverence. Approaching participation in this way helps to support the overall mission of the presentation – to invite everyone to come to Jesus Christ and learn of Him.
As participants in the production of The Live Nativity, you are encouraged to engage in three specific invitations. First, we invite you to study the scriptural accounts of the scene you will be helping to portray. Second, we invite you to join the production team and full cast in daily prayer for our community. We pray that the spirit of the Lord will be with and strengthen the members of our communities, and that the loving message and mission of Jesus Christ will draw individuals and families to greater hope, faith, and trust in Him. Finally, we invite you to expect miracles. We encourage you to fully participate in these specific invitations.
We conclude with the deep gratitude we feel. We express solemn gratitude for the ministry, miracles, and mission of our loving Savior. We also express our gratitude for your personal faith and willingness to share the message behind your faith.
With love and gratitude,
The Production Team

This could be multiple thermal layers or something thicker and black. Black or brown shoes or boots are preferred. But any type of boot will work. Black gloves are allowed.
  • HAIR: You will have a helmet, so your hair won’t be seen. Facial hair is not required for this role, either way is fine.

Scriptural Guide for Cast Members

Below you will find a video and study guide to help you understand the history, story and role you will be portraying in “The Live Nativity” event.

SCENE 1: MARY, THE MOTHER OF JESUS
    Key Scripture References to Study:

BRIEF SUMMARY OF THE SCRIPTURAL EVENT DEPICTED IN THE SCENE:
Two thousand years ago, in the village of Nazareth, there lived a young woman named Mary. She and her family were Jewish descendants, and she grew up being taught about a special promise God had made. The promise was that one day a Savior, the Messiah, would be born to save his people from captivity.
Mary was engaged to be married. While she waited for her wedding, Mary lived with her family. One day, while Mary was doing her daily tasks, an angel appeared to her. The angel called her by name, told her that God loved her, and explained that God wanted her to be the mother of the Son of God.
The angel told Mary that she should call the baby, Jesus, and that He would be the promised Messiah she had been taught about. Mary was humble and told the angel that she would do anything God asked her to do. God was pleased with Mary’s response and the angel departed.

    SCENE 2: JOSEPH
    Key Scripture References to Study:

BRIEF SUMMARY OF THE SCRIPTURAL EVENT DEPICTED IN THE SCENE:
Mary was engaged to a man named Joseph. He also lived in Nazareth and was a patient and kind man. Joseph loved Mary.
One night, while Joseph slept, he had a dream. In the dream, an angel appeared to Joseph and told him that Mary was going to have a baby. The angel told Joseph that the baby was to be called Jesus, that He was the Son of God, and that this baby was the promised Messiah who would save his people from sin and death. The angel told Joseph to receive Mary as his wife and to help care for Jesus.
Joseph loved God and obediently followed God’s commandments and instructions. Mary and Joseph were married, and he cared for her while she was pregnant.
    SCENE 3: JOURNEY TO BETHLEHEM
    Key Scripture References to Study:

BRIEF SUMMARY OF THE SCRIPTURAL EVENT DEPICTED IN THE SCENE:
After their marriage, Joseph and Mary lived together in Nazareth. During this time, the Roman government had taken control of the region. Caesar Augustus ordered all the people who had been conquered by the Romans to be counted.
Mary and Joseph were required to travel from their home to the city of Bethlehem for the census (a southward journey of approximately 90 miles). Traveling was slow and difficult and took many days.
Mary was near the end of her pregnancy and their trip was challenging. Still, Joseph and Mary lovingly cared for one another as they traveled to Bethlehem.
SCENE 4: THE INN OF BETHLEHEM
    Key Scripture References to Study:

BRIEF SUMMARY OF THE SCRIPTURAL EVENT DEPICTED IN THE SCENE:
When Joseph and Mary arrived in Bethlehem, they found the city crowded with people who had come for the census. They searched the city diligently, but there was no place for them to stay the night. They were turned away at every inn.
Mary could tell that the baby would be born very soon. With no other place to stay the night, Joseph and Mary found a stable – usually used as a shelter for animals – and there, prepared for the Son of God to be born.
SCENE 5: A MESSAGE TO THE SHEPHERDS
    Key Scripture References to Study:

BRIEF SUMMARY OF THE SCRIPTURAL EVENT DEPICTED IN THE SCENE:
On the same night, in the hills and fields that surrounded Bethlehem, there were shepherds watching over their sheep and new lambs. As they cared for the sheep, an angel appeared to them. The angel spoke to the shepherds. He told them he had been sent to give them good and joyful news. He announced that the Son of God had been born. He told the shepherds that they would find the baby wrapped in a blanket, sleeping in a manger.
Suddenly, the angel was surrounded by a large group of other angels all joyously singing together, “Glory to God in Heaven, peace on Earth, God sends good blessings.” When the angels left, the shepherds were filled with happiness. Excitedly, they decided to immediately go into Bethlehem to find the newborn Son of God.
SCENE 6: A HOST OF HEAVELY ANGELS

SCENE 7: THE CHRIST-CHILD AND THOSE SURROUNDING THE MANGER
    Key Scripture References to Study:

BRIEF SUMMARY OF THE SCRIPTURAL EVENT DEPICTED IN THE SCENE:
As the angel promised, the shepherds found Mary and Joseph in the private and protected stable. And there, wrapped in a blanket, lying in a manger, was the promised newborn baby. The shepherds were the first witnesses of the Christ-child, and they were filled with joy and gratitude. They excitedly began to tell others about everything they had seen and heard.
Later, wise men from the east also came to see the young Messiah. They had seen the new star – a promised sign of His birth. They also rejoiced and traveled to worship the promised Son of God. When they found Him, the wise men presented gifts of gold, frankincense, and myrrh.
God’s loving promise had been kept. The Son of God had been born, and His name was JESUS.
